GROUND CHERRY PLANTING: Sow seeds indoors in early spring in Jiffy 7 or in flats and inserts with a good soil substitute, like Berger BM-2. Place seeds 1/8″ deep. Germinate at 70Ā°F for about 14 days or until emerged. Transplant outdoors after all danger of frost is past. Space plants 20″ apart.
HARVEST: When berries turn yellow, and husk is brown or when berries drop off plants, pick or gather up. Use fresh or can for later use.

I have purchased starts of this ground cherry from a retail greenhouse that is a customer of Morgan County Seeds. The plants remain short and sprawl over the ground. The flavor is superior to any taller plant variety including the Aunt Molly. To protect the fruit, I lay down fresh straw and surround them with chicken wire and bird net.
