Hardneck Garlics

$16.25$300.00

This easy to peel hardneck garlic has a very hot and spicy flavor that garlic lovers appreciate. Bulbs are attractive too-medium to deep red in color. Like other hardneck garlic, German red performs best in cooler climates, zones 5-7, and is best planted in the fall. It is also valued for its scapes, row flower stems that grow from the tops of garlic in early summer. Scapes are a delightful way to spice up recipes in early summer-and look fabulous in floral arrangements. German Red does not store well as softneck types, but you’ll still have months to enjoy this spicy garlic. 10-15 cloves per bulb.
We get our garlic around mid-September. You may order before that.  In general there are 8 cloves in a pound and 6-8 cloves in a bulb.

Very good. Warm, rich, initial moderate heat with a very nice garlic flavor.

Grows best in cool climates, as Rocamboles require a period of winter cold.  In warmer areas may get a good crop by cooling bulbs for a few weeks prior to planting, but note that plants grown in subsequent years are likely to be smaller (miniaturized) and to produce smaller bulbs.

Quite fussy unless grown in the correct climate. Scapes need to be removed before uncoiling in order to grow full size bulbs.

When first dug light purple blush or mottling on white. Inner wrappers are white. After curing skins are white with faint purple blush or mottling.
Skins are moderately coarse.

Music

Porcelain type. Very popular variety. Very hardy and grows well in cold temperatures. Medium sized bulbs with 4-8 purple skinned cloves.

ELEPHANT GARLIC
Elephant garlic is actually a leek not a garlic. It is harder to grow but the rewards can be great. The better the
organic matter that is in your soil, the happier your garlic will be. The plant, if left alone, will spread into a clump with many flowering heads.
Some of the seed is grown in Missouri.
