Popular green manure crop with farmers or gardeners. Rapid growth and maybe planted anytime before ground freezes.
PLANTING: Sow in the fall after all vegetables or crops have been harvested. Sow at the rate of 3-6 lbs per 1,000 sq. ft or 130-260 lbs per acre. What does not sprout in the fall will at the first warm snap. For green manure crop, till under in the spring when 12-18″ tall.
For a grain crop, let mature. Thrash heads. Use for animal feed or grind into rye flour. Untreated.
